The Student/Farmworker Alliance is a national movement to end the exploitation of farmers and their lands. It is mostly comprised of students and other youth, working with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) to expose the unjust practices of our current food system.

The movement started in 2001 when farmworkers in Immokalee called to action students from across Florida to join the 234-mile "March for Dignity, Dialogue, and a Fair Wage". The Student/Farmworker Alliance has continued its success in systemic change within the food production system through grassroots boycotting organized around the CIW's Campaign for Fair Food. These victories were mostly related to tomato purchasing power, the rights of farmers to a fair wage, and overthrowing corporate greed.

Now, the Student/Farmworker Alliance is focused on boycotting Wendy's and Public grocery store. Wendy's refused to pay one cent more per pound of tomatoes which would help farmers receive a fair wage for their time in the fields. Check out the article above to learn more about the Student/Farmworker Alliance Wendy's boycotts.

The Student/ Farmworker alliance has expanded from Florida to incorporate communities around the United States in boycotts and rallies, planned and spread through social media platforms like Instagram. Through participation in these calls to action, the Alliance is successfully implementing engagement and conversion through their audience on social media in relation to their cause. Groups like the Student/Farmworker Alliance are also helpful in spreading the word about how we can be more ethical in our own personal consumption, as well as enforcing corporations' responsibilities of ethical production practices.
